Instead of meeting with a therapist individually, group therapy members meet as a small group, with one or two therapists facilitating the process. There is usually a theme or topic for the group, and the therapist often conducts initial screening to make sure the potential participants can benefit from group therapy and are carrying the issues that will be addressed in the group.

Some benefits of group therapy include, but are not limited to, feeling you are not alone, facilitating giving and receiving support, learning from each other, building healthy relationships, as well as sharing feelings and experiences to relieve negative emotions. It is also cost-effective compared to individual therapy.
